What Must I do to be Saved?

It is a question of salvation. We often think that it is some sort of difficult task, but the words of Jesus in the Bible show us what we must do to have eternal life. It starts with acknowledging your a sinful, broken being in repentance, and deciding to follow Jesus rather than following your own way. Jesus does not promise it will be an easy journey but he does promise eternal life, once you follow him. A ruler asked Jesus "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" (Luke 18:18-30) And Jesus replies with telling him about the commandments, as well as to sell everything he owns and distribute it to the poor. The man turns sad and Jesus responds with "For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God." This immediately draws a reaction from the other people that had heard the conversation. Members of the crowd then say, "Then who can be saved?" But Jesus answered with, "What is impossible with man is possible with God." And Peter said, "See we have left our homes, and followed you." And he said to them, "Truly I say to you there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.” It is a simple, clear cut truth but it is a difficult road. Following Jesus is the best decision you could ever make. He promises everlasting life for those that are in him and we no longer have to fear death or persecution. "For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?27 For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done." (Matthew 16: 25-27)
